Planning Applications
Parkham Parish Council plays a crucial role in the local planning process. It's important to understand that Torridge District Council holds the sole responsibility for the entire planning process and makes all final decisions on applications within the parish. However, Parkham Parish Council is a statutory consultee. This means we review all applications affecting Parkham and provide comments to Torridge District Council, which are considered in their decision-making. Our input focuses on whether proposals align with the parish's character, respect the environment, and address community concerns. By commenting, the Parish Council acts as a voice for Parkham within Torridge's decision-making framework.
It is possible for anybody to comment, either in opposition or in support of an application, to the planning department in writing but they prefer online submissions. These comments will be published on the Torridge website in relation to the application. Comments will be taken into account by the Parish and District Councils. In the case of most applications a decision on planning permission is made by the officers but in the case of larger applications these are made by a committee of district councillors.
